An inspection shall be conducted by the competent person prior to the start of work and as needed throughout the shift. Inspections shall also be made after every rainstorm or other hazard increasing occurrence. These inspections are only required when employee exposure can be reasonably anticipated.  On or about August 2, 2023, at an establishment located at 2121 Washington Ave in Plover, WI, employees of RJ Rasmussen Plumbing and Heating, Inc. were performing trenching activities and no competent persons had inspected the trench for hazardous conditions exposing employees to cave-in and collapse hazards of over 8 feet.
