29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a.) On or about October 11, 2023, the employer did not ensure that the Sears-Craftsman drill press was properly guarded to protect the operator from exposed rotating parts of the 5 inch drill bit. Employees were holding rubber bushings with their hands approximately 2-3 inches away from the rotating bit. b.) On October 18, 2023, employees were exposed to the sharp edge of the rotating teeth of the reaming tool that extended from the end of the shaft. Employees were holding rubber bushings with their hands approximately 2-3 inches away from the rotating bit.

29 CFR 1910.219(k)(1):Guards. Clutches, cutoff couplings, or clutch pulleys having projecting parts, where such clutches are located seven (7) feet or less above the floor or working platform, shall be enclosed by a stationary guard constructed in accordance with this section. A "U" type guard is permissible. a.) On October 18, 2023, employees were exposed to the shaft of the 2 hand reamers that were left unguarded.
