29 CFR 1910.29(j): (j) Personal fall protection systems. Body belts, harnesses, and other components used in personal fall arrest systems, work positioning systems, and travel restraint systems must meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.140. a. On or about November 27, 2023, an employee was performing cleaning work from the top of the Columbia CPM 50 Block Machine attached to a vertical retractable lifeline that was anchored to the building structure above. The employer did not design and install the personal fall arrest system to ensure that the equipment was anchored in a location free from hazards, such as contact with a rotating overhead mud belt conveyor shaft and/or swing fall hazards, in accordance with Subpart I.
