29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. On or about 11/28/2023, at 3001 110th Avenue Saint Petersburg, FL 33716, at the ferrous metal recycling station located within the landfill, an employee was using a pneumatic gun/lance to blow built-up debris from the picking platform conveyor belt and drive roller (tail pulley) while the conveyor system was still running, during which time the conveyor system belt and drive roller (tail pulley) were not equipped with at least one primary guard; therefore, exposing the employee to an in-going pinch-point/amputation hazard.

29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.: a. On or about 11/28/2023, at 3001 110th Avenue Saint Petersburg, FL 33716, at the ferrous metal recycling station located within the landfill, an employee was using a pneumatic gun/lance to blow built-up debris from the picking platform conveyor belt and drive roller (tail pulley) while the conveyor system was still running, during which time the compressed air supplied to the pneumatic gun/lance from the air compressor was set to 125 PSI/was not reduced to less than 30 PSI, nor was the air gun/lance equipped with a safety tip nozzle/dead-ending type of exit orifice, nor was effective chip guarding used on the gun/lance, therefore exposing the employee to the hazards of the release of the compressed air and flying debris.
