General-duty citation text
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts: The employer is failing to protect employees from exposure to struck-by, crushing, pinning and smashing hazards due to the returning of the backstop with its hazardous motion of quick-moving. This was most recently documented on or about December 8, 2023, and time prior thereto, when the employer did not ensure that the backstop is properly adjusted, secured, and disengaged as the light curtain did not stop/disable the backstop when the injured employee placed their hand past the light curtain to retrieve the part, resulting in the nipping of the fingertip. Employer failed to control the system through proper safety interfaces.
