29 CFR  1910.253(b)(4)(iii):Oxygen cylinders in storage were not separated from fuel-gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet:  The employer was exposing employees to struck-by and explosion hazards. This was most recently documented on January 31, 2024 at the Union Pacific Railroad facility located at or about 6000 West Front Street, North Platte, Nebraska. The employer is allowing oxygen cylinders to be stored close to fuel-gas cylinders.  A) An outside storage area for gas cylinders located directly outside of the diesel repair shop. The storage area is comprised of 5 separate, open metal sheds which are stored side by side. About 12 acetylene cylinders of various shapes are stored approximately 10 feet from about 17 oxygen cylinders.   B) An oxygen cylinder and an acetylene cylinder were chained together near the east end of the diesel shop. The two cylinders were stored together and were not in use while touching each other.  C) An outside storage area for gas cylinders located directly outside of the diesel repair shop. The storage area is comprised of 5 separate, open metal sheds which are stored side by side. Used canisters of both oxygen and acetylene are being stored together in 2 of the sheds. Additionally, these used canisters are being stored neighboring a shed with full fuel gas canisters.  D) An area outside of the small repair shop is being used to store used canisters of both oxygen and fuel gas.
