29 CFR 1926.1153(i)(2)(i): The employer did not ensure that employees covered by this section could demonstrate knowledge and understanding of at least the requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1926(i)(2)(i)(A) through (F) where there was exposure to respirable crystalline silica: Staircase B: On or about February 16, 2024, the employer did not ensure that each employee covered by this section could demonstrate knowledge and understanding of at least the requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1926(i)(2)(i)(A) through (F) where there were exposures to respirable crystalline silica while workers performed associated tasks including, but not limited to, grinding and sandblasting exterior brick veneer walls in the stairwell, on the floor, and in the ceilings. When employees were required to work near these activities that exposed them to silica dust, the employer who controlled the worksite did not initially provide the surrounding employees with the necessary training to ensure employees could at least demonstrate knowledge of the associated health hazards, specific tasks that are exposing them, appropriate protection, contents of this standard, and a description of the medical surveillance program.
