29 CFR 1926.651(i)(3): Sidewalks, pavements, and appurtenant structure shall not be undermined unless a support system or another method of protection is provided to protect employees from the possible collapse of such structures. At the Presidio Trust Cemetery Watermain Improvement Project, a portion of the pavement of the roadway was undermined and did not have a support system or another method of protection as required. Employees were exposed to potential collapse of pavement into the trench.
