One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: On or about April 10, 2024, at a workplace located at 300 South 11th Street, Abbotsford, Wisconsin in the Shop; the Juaristi TS5 6-inch milling machine was not guarded to prevent employee exposure to the point of operation, flying chips, or being struck by the carriage.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle: a) On or about April 10, 2024, at a workplace located at 300 South 11th Street, Abbotsford, Wisconsin in the Shop; the safety interlock on the Union KCX 130 4-axis machine center's operator door was disabled, permitting the door to remain open during operation and access to the rotating spindle and carriage movement. b) On or about April 10, 2024, at a workplace located at 300 South 11th Street, Abbotsford, Wisconsin in the Shop; the safety interlocks on the MTE BF-4200 machining center were disabled on the operator and back access doors, permitting the doors to be positioned in a manner that provided access to the rotating spindle during operation. c) On or about April 10, 2024, at a workplace located at 300 South 11th Street, Abbotsford, Wisconsin in the Shop; the safety interlock on the MTE-2000 machining center was disabled on the operator's door, permitting the door to be opened during operation and access to the rotating spindle.
