1910.212(a)(1) Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about May 7, 2024, the employer did not ensure electronic controls and interlocks were implemented to protect employees from moving scale cars when unjamming feeder tubes on the C-Flux Car Scale.

29 CFR 1910.147(d): The established procedures for the application of energy control (the lockout or tagout procedures) did not cover the actions listed in and was not done in sequence as required by 29 CFR 1910.147(d)(1)-(6): a) On or about May, 7, 2024, the employer did not ensure the C-Flux Line Scale car chemical mixers performing service and maintenance activities by unjamming chemicals stuck in the chemical bin screw feeders tubes on the C-Flux Line Scale car was done in sequence; turning off or shutting down the C-Flux Line Scale Car machine {per 1910.147(d)(2), isolating the C-Flux Line Scale Car from the electrical, pneumatic, and gravity energy sources {(d)(3)}, affixing lockout device(s) to the energy isolation device (s) {(d)(4)(i)} and verifying de-energization and isolation had been accomplished {(d)(6)}, prior to unjamming the chemical bin screw feeders.
