29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): Respirators were not stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals or were not packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve: Motor Transportation Bay 1: On and/or before July 25, 2024, employees conducted vehicle repairs using portable tools that created metal dust and voluntarily wore a 3M 1502 half mask respirator with 3M 60921 cartridges. The respirator and cartridges were stored in a work tool cabinet open and exposed to shop environmental dusts and high heat conditions. The employer had not ensured the respirator and cartridges were protected from contamination which potentially exposed employees to dust inhalation hazards.

29 CFR 1910.134(k)(6): The employer did not provide the basic advisory information on respirators, as presented in Appendix D of 29 CFR 1910.134, in written or oral format to employees who wear respirators when such use was not required by the employer: Motor Transportation Bay 1: On and/or before July 25, 2024, employees conducted vehicle repairs using portable tools that created metal dust and voluntarily wore a 3M 1502 half mask respirator with 3M 60921 cartridges. The employer had not provided the respirator user(s) with the information contained in appendix D which potentially exposed employees to dust inhalation hazards.

The employer had not provided training in the care of hearing protectors and ensured cleaning procedures occurred which potentially exposed employees to bacterial growth and ear infections.
