29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1):Each employee in an excavation shall be protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with paragraph (b) or (c) of this section except when: a) On or about August 7, 2024, the employer failed to ensure that a trench box or an alternative protection system was in place prior to employees working in the 10 foot deep excavation. As a result, employees were exposed to cave-in hazards while replacing old natural gas lines with new.
