29 CFR 1910.147(c)(1):The employer did not establish a program consisting of an energy control procedure, employee training and periodic inspections to ensure that before any employee performed any servicing or maintenance on a machine or equipment where the unexpected energizing, startup or release of stored energy could occur and cause injury, the machine or equipment shall be isolated from the energy source and rendered inoperative. Thermoseal, Inc. - Sidney, Ohio: On or about August 6, 2024, the employer did not develop and implement an energy control program that includes training, written procedures, and audits to protect employees who perform servicing activities such as, but not limited to, unjamming and setting up the G.F. 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Thermoseal, Inc. - Sidney, Ohio: On or about August 6, 2024, employees that operated the G.F. Goodman & Son #1 downstream puller machine (s/n 6101) were exposed to injuries from the ingoing nip-point created by the machine's rotating belts. The employer did not ensure the machine was adequately guarded to protect employees from the rotating parts while feeding material. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence, or written records.
