Location: Job site; On or about 08/19/2024, employees were allowed to begin demolition work on natural gas lines which had not been shut off, capped, or otherwise controlled outside the building line before work began.

29 CFR 1926.850(e): The employer did not determine if any type of hazardous chemicals, gases, explosives, flammable materials, or similarly dangerous substances were used in any pipes, tanks, or other equipment on the property. When the presence of any such substances was apparent or suspected, the employer did not perform testing and purging to eliminate the hazard before demolition was started. Location: Job site; On or about 08/19/2024, employees were allowed to begin demolition operations in the "pick and pack" area to cut and remove sections of natural gas piping which had not been tested or purged to eliminate potential hazards before demolition began.
