29 CFR 1910.138(b): Employers shall base the selection of the appropriate hand protection on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the hand protection relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the hazards and potential hazards identified. [59 FR 16362, April 6, 1994] a) On or about November 4, 2024, approximately 12:30 PM, at 5625 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852, the employer exposed an employee to an amputation hazard when opening a box with a medical scalpel by not evaluating the task for hand protection hazards and determining appropriate the hand protection needed for the task. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
