29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1):The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: a. On or about October 30, 2024, in the chemical wash bay 1, the employer did not adequately assess what personal protective equipment was required in the facility, including eye, face, extremities protection and chemical resistant clothing to protect affected employees from contact with corrosive chemicals such as, sodium hydroxide.

29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) On or about October 30, 2024, wash technician employees were required to clean chemical tanks and pumps, with caustic solution, Sodium Hydroxide, 0.5M, a corrosive chemical. The employer did not require and ensure the use of long chemical resistant gloves to protect affected employee's hands and arms. The lack of proper gloves exposed the employee's forearms to chemical burns.
