29 CFR 1910.132(c): Personal protective equipment was not of safe design and construction for the work to be performed: a) JBS USA Sanitation Corporation, 800 N. 8th Ave., Greeley, CO 80631: On or about November 12, 2024, personnel protective equipment (PPE) used by employees handling pressurized hot water lines ranging from 140 to 180 degree Fahrenheit when cleaning and sanitizing walking working surfaces, conveyors, and equipment throughout the facility was inadequate and did not protect against exposure to thermal hazards. PPE such as but not limited arm protection/sleeves and/or (Heat/high temperature) insulated gloves was not available for employee use.

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2): The employer did not verify that the required workplace hazard assessment has been performed through a written certification that identifies the workplace evaluated, the person certifying that the evaluation has been performed, the date(s) of the hazard assessment and which identifies the document as a certification of hazard assessment: a) JBS USA Sanitation Corporation, 800 N. 8th Ave., Greeley, CO 80631: On or about November 12, 2024, the employer did not verify through written certification that the required workplace hazard assessment had been completed. Although personnel protective equipment (PPE) was provided for employee use, the employer failed to assess and/or provide appropriate PPE to employees tasked with sanitizing machinery/equipment at the facility. As part of the sanitation process, employees on C-Shift are required to use pressurized water that is heated to approximately 140 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. This condition has the potential to expose employees and others in the immediate vicinity to burn injuries.

29 CFR 1910.151(b): There was neither an infirmary, clinic, or hospital used for the treatment of all injured employees in near proximity to the workplace nor a person or persons adequately trained to render first aid: a) JBS USA Sanitation Corporation, 800 N. 8th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631: On or before November 12, 2024, the employer did not ensure treatment was available to C-Shift sanitation employees in the event first aid was needed. The clinic is closed from 12:00 A.M. to 5:30 A.M, personnel trained to render first aid were not available during this time, and the nearest medical facility is approximately 3.1 miles away. This condition exposed employees to serious injuries.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: a) JBS USA Sanitation Corporation., 800 N. 8th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631: On or before November 12, 2024, the employer did not ensure that employees on C-Shift received effective training on chemicals used to sanitize machinery and equipment. Chemicals used at the facility include but are not limited to: B-701 Chlor, Sodium Hypochlorite 12.5% NSF 1-WAY, Master Foam, B-Quat Sept, B-150, B-160, B-725 Detergent, PERASAN A, and B-555 Acid AE. This condition exposed employees to severe skin and eye injuries, as well as serious skin and eye injuries.
