29 CFR  1926.651(c)(2): Means of egress from trench excavations. A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress shall be located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees.  a.  Located at 2048 Ashley Way, Plain City, OH 43064:  On or about December 6, 2024, an employee working in an excavation approximately 9' deep was not provided with a ladder or other means of safe egress, which required the employee to climb out of the excavation, exposing them to potential fall hazards.   Varney Excavating, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard, 29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1597287, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on September 21, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 6000 Peck Lane, New Albany, OH 43054.
