29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii):The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. A) In the meat cutting room of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Commissary on March 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM employees were observed cutting meat with a bandsaw. The blade guard was above the thickest part of the meat being cut by several inches, exposing employees to the blade while it is operating. With the speed in which the blade operates any accidental contact could rapidly result in a severe cut or amputation.

29 CFR 1910.22(a)(2):(2) The floor of each workroom is maintained in a clean and, to the extent feasible, in a dry condition. When wet processes are used, drainage must be maintained and, to the extent feasible, dry standing places, such as false floors, platforms, and mats must be provided. A) In the the meat cutting room of the Joint Base Lewis McChord on March 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM Employees were performing meat cutting operations on a bandsaw where there were slippery conditions on the floor of the work area, potentially leading to a slip or fall that may result in contact with the blade of the saw.
