If the workpiece where to jammed causing the abrasive wheel to break, the operator and other working in the immediate area could be exposed to struck-by hazards from flying debris, metal fragments, and sparks. 29 CFR 1910.243(c)(3): Abrasive wheels used on vertical portable grinder(s) (right angle head grinders) were not provided with safety guard(s) having a maximum exposure angle of 180 degrees and located between the operator and wheel: a) Iowa Building, Machine Shop: On or about April 17, 2025, the portable 4.5 -inch (Milwaukee) right angle hand grinder was unguarded and thus potentially exposed employees tasked with completing maintenance activities that involved grinding, cutting, and sharpening to struck-by hazards if the abrasive wheel were to break and/or flying chips and sparks.
