29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4): Work rests. On offhand grinding machines, the employer did not ensure that work rests were used to support the work. They were not of rigid construction and designed to be adjustable to compensate for wheel wear. Work rests were not kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage. The work rest was not securely clamped after each adjustment. a) Commercial & Residential Painting Inc., 1426 Valley Drive, Syracuse, NY - Maintenance Area. On or about July 16, 2025, workers were permitted to operate the Ryobi Bench Grinder while without a work rest to protect the operator should the abrasive wheel shatter during operation.
