29 CFR  1910.147(c)(1):Energy control program. The employer shall establish a program consisting of energy control procedures, employee training and periodic inspections to ensure that before any employee performs any servicing or maintenance on a machine or equipment where the unexpected energizing, startup or release of stored energy could occur and cause injury, the machine or equipment shall be isolated from the energy source and rendered inoperative.  On or about July 18, 2025, the employer did not establish a comprehensive energy control program prior to employees engaging in the filter-changing process inside the filter room at the Giant Eagle located at 50 W. BRIDGE ST., BEREA, OH 44017. Specifically, the employer did not implement a program that includes energy control procedures, employee training, and periodic inspections. As a result, employees were exposed to significant hazards, including but not limited to the moving mechanical fan blades of an exhaust fan while servicing or maintaining this equipment.
