What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about July 25, 2025, the employer did not provide adequate machine guarding methods at Station 6 Lathe to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards created by the point of operation and rotating parts of the machine. Specifically, the existing safety bar system, which is intended to contain the lathe's rotating mandrel during operation, does not provide adequate protection. The system is designed in such a way that it allows operators to remove and bypass the safety bars from their sleeves while the mandrel is in operation. As a result, employees are exposed to struck-by/caught-in machine parts hazards.
