29 CFR 1910.22(a)(3): The employer did not ensure that walking-working surfaces are maintained free of hazards such as sharp or protruding objects, loose boards, corrosion, leaks, spills, snow, and ice. (a) On or about September 2, 2025, the employer had not maintained walking-working surfaces free from burn hazard when filtering frying grease from the fryers. Employees performing filtering work moved frying grease pan into the middle of walking-working surface without signage /guarding to prevent other employees from stepping / tripping into the container full of 300-345 degree fahrenheit frying grease. This exposed employees to a burn hazard.

29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. (a) On or about September 2, 2025, the employer had not provided employees with the proper hand protection when filtering grease from the fryers, in-that employees were using plastic gloves and not Insulated, heat-resistant gloves when pulling grease frying oil pan from the fryer. When employees pull the grease frying oil pan out of the fryer, the 300-345 degree fahrenheit frying oil / grease can splash exposing employees hands/arms to a burn hazard.

Kentucky Fried Chicken was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.22(a)(3), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1662226, citation number 01, item number 01, and was affirmed as a final order on September 21, 2023, with respect to the workplace located at 4702 NW Cache Rd, Lawton, OK 73505. Mitra Midwest Operations, LLC d.b.a.
