Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to broken bones/internal injuries from a fall hazard while using the bucket of a front end loader as a work platform: a) Pump Station - Employees working at the 8 foot level removing a gate hinge while hoisted in the bucket of the Case Pippen front end loader (no serial number) on or about May 29, 1987. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to prohibit the hoisting of personnel in the bucket or using the bucket as a work platform.
