Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
multiple injuries from a fall:
a) Turbine Generator, Boiler Building - Employees walking on and around
a 12 inch wide aluminum cable tray were exposed to falls from 15 feet
5 inches up to 16 feet, 4 inches to the concrete floor below and were
not protected from the fall hazard, June 7, 1988.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, SOME FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE:
1) To put up solid vertical supports, attach perimeter lines and utilize
safety belts and lanyards, with closer supervision and enforcement of
wearing safety belts.
2) To construct scaffolding inside the work area of the walls to work
from the guarded platform.
