Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
falling building materials:
a) Employees engaged in manufacturing dog, cat and other pet foods were
exposed to being struck by falling concrete pieces from the roof of
the building due to the concrete roof needing repairs, June 20, 1986.
"AMONG OTHER METHODS, SOME FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE:"
1) Repair of replace concrete roof.
2) Install safety net to prevent pieces of concrete from falling below
on area where worker could be present.
3) Install deflectors or provide alternate form of protection for
workers to ensure the hazard of falling materials are not present.
