General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a puncture and laceration hazard: a) Employees in the Clean-In-Place Room for the cultured products assemble product cartons with a Bliss/Bostitch wire stitcher (Serial #L11654v). The machine foot pedal operating control was ungarded thus exposing employees to injury if the pedal was accidently or inadvertently actuated, April 7, 1986. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to abate this hazard is to install a foot pedal guard.
