Event description

Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

Investigation abstract

An employee was working as a Border Control Agent. The employee's duties included feeding, transporting and transferring detained persons at a Central Processing Center's various facilities. The employee was in close contact for periods longer than 15 minutes with COVID-19 positive individuals who crossed the border into the country with unknown medical status. Though it was confirmed the employee wore an N95 respirator, detainees were not always compliant with wearing surgical masks provided. The employee tested positive for COVID-19 on August 18, 2021, was hospitalized for treatment at 8:00 a.m. on August 22, 2021 and died on September 26, 2021.
