An employee was operating an overhead crane with a plat clamp attachment to reposition a 12-inch diameter by 12-foot long rudder stock to its opposite side. The load was out of position at an approximate 75-degree horizontal angle instead of a vertical 90-degree vertical position beneath the crane. The employee was standing to the right of the rudder stock being moved. As the load began to swing away from him, he attempted to control the swinging motion with his left hand. His left ring finger got pinched between a nearby metal stand and the rudder stock.
