An employee used lacquer thinner to clean the lid of a glue pot over a barrel. He then used a heated putty knife to clean the remaining glue from the lid. When the knife touched the lid, the fumes and thinner caused the lid and barrel to flash and catch on fire. The employee suffered first degree burns on his face and left hand.
