An employee was replacing a bearing assembly on the outside of a weighted feed bin. After repairs were completed, the employee was putting the completed assembly back into the feeder housing when the feeder coil suddenly retracted into the feeder housing. His finger was pinched between the bearing cap and the feeder housing, resulting in a partial amputation and open fracture to the left middle finger. The motor on the feed bin was locked out at the time.
