An employee was standing on a level surface and was using his hands to guide an iron column, which was being moved by a small tower crane. As he was guiding the suspended column, his finger was caught between a flange of the column and a tie-back cable (for a swing-stage) that was behind him. This resulted in a crushed right index finger and a laceration to the right middle finger. Following the injury, his right index fingertip was amputated at the hospital (from the top knuckle up), and his middle finger required stitches.
