Employees were working in a 5-foot-deep trench. While an employee was repositioning pipes, the gravel layer toward the bottom of the trench gushed out of one of the sidewalls of the trench and engulfed his right foot, trapping him. Simultaneously, the force of the rushing soil pushed his lower right leg sideways. He suffered a broken tibia and was hospitalized.

An employee was doing electrical work in a trench when one of the trench walls caved in. The employee was struck by the soil and sustained fractures to their ribs and pelvis.
