An employee was inside an aerial lift basket approximately 140 feet above ground level prepping for installation of an intake hood. The employee was connecting a welding lead to the welding machine. An overhead bridge crane struck the aerial lift. The boom of the aerial lift collapsed and the employee was catapulted out of the basket falling 34 feet onto the top section of the crane. The employee remained attached to the basket with the lanyard he utilized. The aerial lift basket then landed on top of the employee striking and crushing the employee. The employee suffered multiple fractures.
