An employee acting in the capacity of a pile driver was greasing a pile driving hammer that was on the ground while in a blind spot of the crane operator. The hammer was raised and pinched the injured pile driver's left hand between the sidewall of the hammer and the grease gun in the piling leads, resulting in amputation of the middle fingertip through the nailbed and a fractured ring finger.
