The injured employee was working on the south side of a press while another employee was on the north side of the press, operating the die cart to insert a new die into the press. The injured employee noticed a couple of scrap metal parts in the die and went to grab the scrap pieces. The die caught the injured employee's right thumb tip against a hole in the press, causing a partial amputation.
