An employee was backfilling a trench using a concrete auger. When the trench transitioned to a different depth, the auger articulated and the front-right tire lodged itself in the deeper portion of the trench, causing the auger to tilt to the right into the ditch. As the machine was teetering toward the ditch, multiple employees brought a mini excavator to hook onto the cement auger to shift it upright. As the auger was pulled back out of the ditch, it articulated to the left and caught the injured employee's leg between the bucket on the excavator and the side of the auger. The employee suffered a fracture and injured muscle tissue in his leg.
