What happened
A Battery Wrecker employee was leaving the Filter Press area at the east side of the Containment Building to go on break. While the employee was walking through the containment building on his way to take a break he took a short-cut ducking under an enclosed conveyor and then over a knee wall (not a designated walking path) to get to the other side of the containment building. To cross the knee wall the employee stepped onto a wooden block onto the knee wall and then stepped down onto lead buttons and then the floor surface on the other side of the wall and into a driveway. When the employee stepped down off the knee wall and onto the stored material (lead buttons that were surrounded by stored scrap lead and other lead buttons) the employee’s right knee came into contact with the stored scrap lead causing a laceration. This resulted in the employee receiving 10 stitches at the emergency room and the employee being placed on ten days of restricted duty.
