Before the incident
Employee and a partner were removing a sign cabinet from a wall mount. One of the stainless steel bolt holding the cabinet seized. The employee opted to cut the seized bolt with a cut off wheel. While holding the lower portion of the sign cabinet with his body and left hand the employee began to cut the bolts below a horizontal support. As the employee was completing the cut the cabinet dropped. As a reflex the employee dropped his hands in an attempt to catch the cabinet while the grinder was still in his right hand. Resulting in the grinder s wheel making contact with the employee s left hand cutting through his glove and lacerating the ring finger of his left hand. Employee self administered first aid called Axiom and was referred to a Urgent Care facility.
