Drawing patient 's am labs using 24 g butterfly needle. After piercing patient and receiving blood applied gauze to site and removed needle. While holding gauze with L hand first finger attempted to disengage needle safety with R hand. Pushed needle forward and into side of L first finger. Blood apparent cleansed with alcohol swab and reported to charge RN and house supervisor.
