Before the incident
A film extrusion operator was retrieving film cores from a core cart between film extrusion lines 601 602 for staging cores spindles. The film core he was attempting to remove from the cart was stuck to the stack of film cores below and could not be easily freed by simply pulling up by hand. The operator was attempting to separate cores from the row second to bottom of the cart. Cores on the lower rows tend to be more difficult to separate due to increased adhesion between cores from the pressure of the the weight of the cores stacked above. To separate the cores the operator grabbed a second film core grasping the core on the ends with each hand. He then swung the core in hand into the end of the core that he was attempting to separate. In doing so he pinched his small finger on his left hand between the two cores resulting in a laceration and fracture to his left small finger.
