Employee was setting up dressing when assistant PA handed employee a needle that wasn 't fully protected. The employee was stuck with needle in her left thumb.

Tech was handed a needle on a needle holder partially protected by PA but the sharp end was out. The sharp end caught the tech 's thumb as she was trying to rotate it on the needle holder to place it in the needlebook. The tech immediately stepped away and took the contaminated needle and needle holder away from the sterile field and notified the nurse and reported to employee health.
