Before the incident
During start-up of the Sterling [REDACTED] [REDACTED] the die was froze off. In an attempt to unfreeze the die the machine was started with the die cold allowing the material to heat up or create friction heat and hopefully open the die. With extruder running the pressure built behind the die and screen changer. As the extruder screw turned pressure built behind the die and screen changer slide plate and the material became hotter until plastic was pressure released from the South Side of the screen changer plate. Material sprayed and hit the operator on their forearms. Operator was taken to the ER and checked out and released.
