Guiding a mold with left hand between injection molding press tie bars. Employee was raising mold out of the press with right hand holding crane hoist pendant to raise the mold

At [REDACTED] on [REDACTED] the 3rd shift supervisor was notified of a safety incident with one of the employees in Injection molding. While the employee was removing a mold from the press their finger was pinched between the mold and the tie bar. Upon the employee removing their glove their finger was already purple and starting to swell. The employee became very pale and lightheaded. First aid attendant encouraged employee to go to hospital. They contacted a family member to pick them up for transport to the hospital. Upon filling out incident report the operator said that this mold needs to be turned 90 degrees to get between the tie bars and then rotated back while inside the tie bars. The Injection Molding Group leader put the mold on the cart as it was hanging above the press when the employee walked away. The Supervisor also measured the mold and compared to the opening of tie bars confirming the employees statement around the small space this press has for this mold to go in. w
