The employee was preparing to do a check of the slide gate on a ladle used for transporting molten metal from an electric arc furnace to a high-pressure atomization station.

While checking the slide gate on the ladle the arm on a jib crane used for the gate check stuck and then released quickly. This sudden movement caused the employee to stumble slightly and strike his left wrist with the hydraulic cylinder (used to check the gate) and then stumbled into the heat shield for the gate.
