Before the incident
Just prior to the incident there was a jam at the calendar. The employee quickly grabbed and pulled the tool in one motion with great speed and force mistaking the cutting end for the handle. While pulling the tool down to hold what he believed to be the handle the protective guard on the tool broke due to the force in which he pulled with and the speed of his grabbing of the tool resulting in the sharp edge of the blade cutting his thumb.
What happened
While pulling the tool down to hold what he believed to be the handle the protective guard on the tool broke due to the force in which he pulled with and the speed of his grabbing of the tool resulting in the sharp edge of the blade cutting his thumb. The accident was a result of misjudgment by the employee not wearing the required PPE (i.e. cut-resistant gloves) and a lack of awareness at that moment.
