To stop the starch from dripping on the backside of the sheet the operator used a piece of steel strapping to try to seal the gasket in the area where the starch was dripping The strapping was commonly used to push up and under the gasket to get the gasket to seal better The operator pushed the strapping too far under the gasket and it was pulled through the nip point When the strapping was pulled from the persons hand the metal strapping cut their finger
