Employees were installing a handrail on a catwalk The handrail was being cut to length using a portable band saw electric The injured employee was performing the cut when the excess portion was falling off the end the employee used their left to catch it The power button was deactivated but the blade continued to cycle through the residual capacity energy still in the tool The employee in an attempt to grab the excess piece inadvertently put their hand in the pathway of the saw as it also fell creating a struck by incident Impact from the saw cut through employees glove and through the skin on the back side of their left hand Impact was between the thumb and wrist area Resulting in 8 sutures
