The employee was coiling spring on a new lathe.

The employee ran into an issue with a lathe when the spring wire kept lapping at the end of the spring. The accident happened when the employee cut off the wire on the spring 's tail end but forgot to unwind the lathe to release spring tension. Once the employee cut off the wire the springtail end struck the employee 's hand broke his index finger and lacerated his thumb.
